Nilkanth

Nilkant is a significant deity in Hinduism, often associated with Lord Shiva. The name "Nilkant" (Sanskrit: नीलकण्ठ) means "blue throat," derived from the mythological story of Shiva consuming the halahala poison during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan). To protect the universe from the poison’s destruction, Shiva held it in his throat, turning it blue. This act symbolizes his role as the preserver and destroyer, absorbing negativity to maintain balance.

Nilkant is venerated in various Shiva temples, such as the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Uttarakhand, India, a sacred site nestled in the Himalayas. The deity represents divine power, sacrifice, and the triumph of good over evil, deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and spiritual traditions.
